Choosing Coloring Supplies by Age

Colored pencils are the most versatile and recommended coloring tool. Their dry lead allows precise gesture control and does not bleed through paper.

For ages 2-4, choose thick maxi or jumbo pencils whose diameter suits the developing grip. Triangular pencils naturally guide finger placement toward the tripod grasp. For ages 4-7, standard-sized pencils work perfectly. A box of 12 colors is sufficient. For ages 7 and above, higher-quality pencils with more pigmented leads and an extended range of 24 to 36 shades allow children to produce results they are truly proud of.

Wax crayons are the first choice for toddlers aged 18 months to 3 years. Their short, chunky shape fits the palmar grip perfectly. Block or pebble-shaped crayons are ideal for children under 2.
